Selling to existing clients, new clients, and walk-in clients


Eliminate the front desk by processing sales tickets directly from your iPhone or iPad. In MINDBODY Express™, you can create a sales ticket for an existing client, a new client, or a walk-in client. 



Starting sales tickets

Existing clients

  1. Tap Retail in the main menu.
  2. Select Existing Client.
  3. Search for the client, then tap their name to continue.


New clients

Speed things up by adding a new client to your system at the same time that you sell a product or service. When creating a new client, the required fields you've configured in your MINDBODY software will appear in red, and your client will have the opportunity to sign your liability waiver.

  1. Tap Retail in the main menu.
  2. Select New Client.
  3. Enter the customer's name and contact information, then tap Continue.

You're now ready to select items for purchase.  


Walk-in clients

You can sell a walk-in client products, but not services. This is because sales processed to walk-in clients will not be associated with a client profile in your site. If a walk-in client wants to purchase services, then you'll need to add the customer as a new client.

  1. Tap Retail in the main menu.
  2. Select Walk-In.

Adding items to the ticket

From the Retail screen, you can add products and services to the client's retail ticket. You'll also notice a section reserved for "Top Sellers," which displays the 20 most popular items based on sales within the previous 30 days.

Searching products

  • To add products to the ticket, tap Search Products.
  • Type the name of the item you would like to sell.
  • From the resulting list below, tap on the product to add the item to the ticket. You'll notice that you can tap the item multiple times to sell more than one.
  • Once you've added all your products, you can tap the Back button to add services and top sellers, or tap the shopping cart icon in the upper right to check out.     

Searching services

  • To add services to the ticket, tap Browse Services.
  • This will bring up a list of all the service categories that have existing pricing options. Select the correct Service Category.
  • Then, choose the pricing option you want to sell to the client. Tap it once to add it to the ticket. You'll notice that you can tap the item multiple times to sell more than one to the client. 
  • Once you've added all your service pricing options from this service category, you can tap the Back button to add more services, products, or and top sellers. Or, you can tap the shopping cart icon in the upper right to check out. 

Note: Services cannot be sold to walk-in clients; if a client wishes to purchase services, you'll need to add the client to the system first. 

Scanning barcodes

If you have added barcodes to your products, you can scan them using the camera on our mobile device.

  • Click Scan Barcode to bring up the barcode scanner.
  • Center the barcode within the white guidelines. You'll see the red scanner line move up and across the barcode to add the item to the ticket.

Note: At this time, it is not possible to sell contracts in MINDBODY Express. To sell a contract, you'll need to log in to your MINDBODY site on a computer, and complete the sale through the Retail screen.

Checking out

Payment methods:

  • Credit Cards: Keyed (or swiped, if you use MINDBODY payment processing)
  • Cash
  • Check
  • Prepaid Gift Cards
  • Account

Note: If a client pays with a prepaid gift card that does not have enough credit to cover the total amount of the sale, you can use an additional payment method to cover the total cost of the ticket. Otherwise, the split payments feature is not currently available in the app.

Accepting payment:

Ask your client how he or she would like to pay.

  1. On the Checkout screen, tap the method of payment. If you process payment cards, then you can use a mobile card swiper compatible with the headphone jack on the top of your iPhone.
  2. Input the credit card number, check number, gift card number, the amount of cash tendered, or have the client sign the screen to approve an account charge. 
  3. Choose whether or not you want to send the client a receipt by tapping Yes or No. If the client's email is already in your system, it will show up automatically. If not, make sure to enter the client's email in the field below.
  4. Tap Process Sale to complete the purchase.
